"Self-portrait" 2001 |
Scott Pohlschmidt began his training in painting and sculpture in Chicago while completing a Bachelor of Art's degree at DePaul University. Receiving the University's Dean's Art Scholarship enabled Scott to travel to Italy to train in traditional 19th century painting techniques. He subsequently spent 9 years in Florence, working first as an apprentice then as Chief Studio Assistant at the Charles H. Cecil Studios.
He recently moved to London, where he is focused on producing multi-figure genre paintings and plein air figure studies. Together with his wife and another artist, he founded the 'Lavender Hill Studios', a school offering representational art courses for people of all skill levels. [ www.lavenderhillstudios.com ]
In 2007, Scott's portrait 'Tim' was selected to the BP Portrait Award, along with 59 other paintings. The show is held at the National Portrait Gallery, London. You can see his piece [here].
Scott makes all of his canvasses, using the finest Belgium linen, which he sizes and primes with lead white primer. He hand grinds his paints using the best quality pigments from France and Italy. His sculptures are carried out in clay, from which a bronze is made, using the lost wax method.
Scott is represented by galleries in London and Chicago and has exhibited throughout America, England, and Italy. He accepts both oil portrait and sculpture commissions and can be contacted [here].
